A Palette from Plants: Making Inks from Foraged and Grown Plants - 30th October
Making a palette of inks from plants that can be grown or foraged locally.
Iris green, madder red, indigo blue, weld yellow, and many many more.
Over the course of ‘A Palette from Plants’, you will be introduced to making inks from plants found both from within Dumfries and Galloway, and from sources further afield. The day will begin with a talk on the basics of how to make ink. Participants will then be shown examples of plants that can be used and the inks or paints that have been made using them. We will also look at the different ways inks can be modified to increase the range of colours available.
By the end of the day, participants will have had the chance to experiment with a wide range of homemade plant inks and been a part of making plants inks from scratch. Participants will get to take at least one bottle of ink home alongside comprehensive notes on how to make inks at home.
Every workshop at The Old Mill begins with a hot drink of your choice including specialist coffees, and home baked biscuits. We hope that our workshops are a real treat for yourself or a loved one, as well as a rich learning experience.
Suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience, wanting to develop skills with working with plants.
